About 9 Planets

There are nine planets in the horoscope, they play important role in an individual’s destiny. These planets are described as Devtas in Hindu Ved and Purans and are treated as the lord of twelve houses of the Horoscope. For example, a person born in Leo Lagna, Sun is the lord of the first house that is lagna of the horoscope. From the Leo ascendant the second house would be of Virgo whose lord is Mercury, he would be called the second lord of the Horoscope and so on.  The effect of these planets on our life could be happy or sad, but the planets must fulfill their functions for the native to persist, which they have set up as a result of previous actions in previous lives. These planets direct our mind to perform all our activities and direct our attention. These nine planets are: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. The natural benefic planets are: Moon, Venus and Jupiter, while Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu are natural malefic planets. Benefic planets give good results and malefic planet in general doesn’t give auspicious results during their major and sub-period. Mercury is a planet, who plays benefic role when placed with benefic planet/s, and becomes malefic when placed with malefic planets.  Sun is not malefic though its presence in family houses i.e. second, fourth and seventh house is inauspicious because it gives separation. Sun is praised when placed in upchaya bhava i.e. in third, sixth, tenth and eleventh house.
